Il Casentino.

The Casentino valley embraces extremely beautiful countryside which has a vast and lingering history, where legends are steeped in chivalry, where ruined castles and powerful citadels like the castle of Poppi speak to us still today of past glories, where mountains, streams and forests teeming with colour retain the imprints of such famous personages as St Francis of Assisi and Dante. This valley has been called the “valley of the spirit” because of its holy places, such as Camaldoli, Vallombrosa, and La Verna with the rock where St Francis received the stigmata.
